Data Sources

cs2cases.cc does not invent any item, price or drop rate. Case contents come from a community-maintained export of the game files, prices come from the Steam Community Market through a public aggregator, and statistics come from the openings simulated on this site. How these inputs turn into odds and expected value is explained on the Methodology page.
Case contents: ByMykel CSGO-API
The list of containers, their items, rarities, float ranges, images and release dates comes from the open-source ByMykel CSGO-API project, which extracts this data from the CS2 game files. We read the files crates.json and skins.json from the main branch of that repository, plus the sticker, patch, graffiti and music kit files to get each item's Steam market name. The data is re-read at most once an hour, so a new case appears on the site within about an hour of being added upstream. We do not pin a specific commit: if the upstream project makes a mistake, it shows here too until it is fixed there.
A container is only listed when it has contents and a Steam Market price of its own. Containers nobody sells are left out rather than shown with made-up values.
Prices: Steam Community Market via csgotrader
Item and case prices are Steam Community Market prices in US dollars, taken from the public price file published by csgotrader.app. For each item we use the median sale price over the last 7 days. When an item did not sell in that window we fall back to the 30-day median, then the 90-day median, then the last 24 hours. A median is used rather than the latest sale so that a single outlier trade does not move the expected value.
A scheduled job downloads the full price file once a day at 04:00 UTC and stores it in our database. Pages read prices from that stored copy and are regenerated at most once an hour, so a price shown on the site is at most about a day old. Pages that depend on prices, like the best cases ranking, show the date of the prices they use.
Drop rates
Weapon case rarity odds are the ones Valve disclosed in 2017. Rates for souvenir packages and capsules are our estimates based on the same five-times rule; the methodology explains how they are built.
Simulated openings
Each time someone opens a container on this site, the server draws the result and records it anonymously: container, item, rarity, wear, float, StatTrak and the price at that moment. No personal data is stored. These records feed the statistics page. They are simulated openings, not openings of real cases by CS2 players.
